(The Post News) – Dmitry Kozak, a close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, has stepped down from his role as the Kremlin’s deputy chief of staff, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed on Thursday, after he submitted his resignation over the weekend.
The announcement follows earlier reports by The Moscow Times about the Ukraine-born official’s departure. Kozak, one of the rare senior figures who opposed Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine, is reportedly considering a move into the business sector. “I can confirm that Dmitry Nikolayevich Kozak has resigned. At his own request,” said Peskov.
The former deputy Chief of Staff was previously regarded as a key Kremlin power broker. In recent years, however, he maintained a low profile and was said to have handed over major responsibilities to Sergei Kiriyenko, the influential first deputy chief of staff.
