(The Post News) – On Friday, the Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport Kedibone Diale-Tlabela will visit the family of Gauteng Chairperson of the National Taxi Alliance (NTA), Thamsanqa Moya who has been brutally killed.
Moya was shot while driving along the Soweto highway on Thursday. MEC Diale-Tlabela condemned this senseless act of violence, which has not only robbed the industry of a dedicated leader but also left a painful mark on his family, colleagues, and the broader transport sector.
Diale-Tlabela said that Moya was a dedicated leader within the sector who was helping broker peace; he played an important role in shaping dialogue with the taxi industry. This is a devastating loss to the industry and to Gauteng as a whole.
“His untimely death is a blow to ongoing efforts to build peace, unity, and sustainable solutions within the taxi sector,” said Diale-Tlabela. The MEC extended condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Moya, as well as the leadership and members of the NTA.
She further urged law enforcement agencies to work tirelessly to find the culprits. “We cannot allow criminal elements to derail progress in the taxi industry through acts of intimidation and violence. We call for calm, restraint, and cooperation as investigations unfold.” She reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to working with all stakeholders in the taxi industry to build a safe, reliable, and peaceful transport system in Gauteng.
SANTACO said Moya will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to unity, stability, and progress; he tirelessly championed a sustainable and inclusive future for the sector. Police in Gauteng have confirmed that the incident bears the hallmarks of a targeted hit. Acting Police Minister Professor Firoz Cachalia has assured the industry that the case will be treated as a priority.
