(The Post News) -Church robbery is becoming a disturbing reality in many communities. About 60 people attending a prayer service at Zayoni Kingdom Catholic Church in Waterloo, north of Durban, found themselves caught up in this harsh reality on Friday night.
During the service, two armed men dressed all in black entered the church around 9pm. They demanded mobile phones from the church members. According to eyewitnesses and the Reaction Unit of South Africa, the robbers collected 46 devices, placing them in a plastic bag before quickly fleeing the scene.
Church Robbery Leaves Community in Shock
It remains unclear whether the suspects escaped on foot or by a vehicle. Fortunately, none of the congregation members were injured during the ordeal. This incident highlights that robberies at church can shake the sense of safety, even in spaces meant for reflection and calm. Churches, which many see as sanctuaries, are not immune to the reach of violence and fear.
As communities grapple with this reality, the story of Zayoni Kingdom Catholic Church is a reminder that the struggle against a robbery touches every corner of life, even our most sacred spaces. Ultimately, it calls on all of us to find strength and hope, even in the face of church robbery.
