(The Post News) – Businessman Mandla Elliot Mthembu, who rose to prominence in the early 2000s after his marriage to actress Khanyi Mbau, has died at the age of 68 after suffering complications related to a stroke.
Mthembu’s Family Confirms in a Statement
In a statement issued on Monday by Mthembu’s family, they confirmed that he passed away on Sunday evening in a hospital in New York. “It is with profound sadness that we confirm the passing of Mandla Elliot Mthembu, esteemed business mogul and long-standing member of the ANC,” the statement said.
The family added that, “He was admitted to hospital, where he suffered a second stroke. Despite the tireless efforts of medical professionals, he succumbed to complications related to the stroke.” Mthembu leaves behind six children: Melusi, Nelisiwe, Onentando, Ntando, Khanukani and Sibongile.
According to the family he was a man who dedicated his life to business and political values. “Throughout his life, Mandla was known for his entrepreneurial spirit, his contributions to South Africa’s business landscape and his commitment to the values of the ANC. His legacy will be remembered by many across the country,” the statement reads.
The statement further said the details of the memorial service will be anounced, citing that “We ask for space during this deeply painful time as we mourn the loss of a beloved father, brother and friend.”
