(The Post News) -Authorities are currently investigating a child sexual assault case involving an eight-year-old pupil at Garlandale Primary School in Athlone. The child reportedly told his parents that another pupil had harmed him in a school bathroom.
The boyās parents first learned of the situation when the school called, asking them to come in the following day. Once at home, their child shared that he had been forced into a bathroom, physically hurt, and made to remove his clothing. Meanwhile, another student nearby reportedly raised the alarm after hearing his cries for help.
Concerned that the schoolās response was insufficient, the family quickly reached out to the authorities and medical experts for support. Furthermore, police have confirmed the child sexual assault case is under investigation, although no arrests have been made at this time. Experts caution that incidents like this, while deeply distressing, must be handled with care to ensure the child receives the right kind of help.
Research shows that the effects of sexual trauma can last for years. Therefore, providing early support, counseling, and a safe environment plays a vital role in helping a child heal, with an emphasis on recovery rather than punishment.
The family is scheduled to meet with investigators and a social worker soon to discuss next steps and available support options in this child sexual assault case.
