(The Post News) – The Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality (MMM) has announced its first annual price increase for the Hauweng Bus Service, from 1 October 2025 the bus fare will be R12 for all active routes along the Brandwag corridor.
MMM confirmed in a statement released on Thurday, 25 September 2025, the single trip will increase from R10 to R12. “This increament is justified as a measure to balance escalating operational and service costs while keeping fares affordable for users to ensure long term sustainability of the project and revenue collection for the the city,” reads the statement.
It is reported that at the start of each local government financial year in July, bus prices must be altered as part of the City’s annual budget. “This year’s increase is set at 2%. Return ticket will increase from R20 to R24 and a multi-journey tickets fares will increase from R100 to R120,” stated the statement.
Mangaung Metro urges residents and commuters to purchase the muti-journey tickets for those who travel to school or work and back to their homes five days per week as the tickets do not expire. This will help commuters to save and manage their transport expences well.
Hauweng Bus Services to Extand Routes
Earlier this year, Mangaung Metro Mayor Gregory Nthatisi, highlighted that the city aims to expand the routes for Hauweng, moving forward with phases 1A and 1B, which will expand the network to the Moshoeshoe and OR Tambo routes.
According to Nthatisi, Hauweng bus service, launched in July 2024, has provided residents with affordable transport, and created dozens of employment opportunities most especially for the youth.
