(The Post News)- An alleged gang violence-related shooting has claimed the lives of two people at an open field behind Aalwyn Street, Delft South, on the Cape Flats.
Police spokesperson Wesley Twigg said in a statement that officers have launched a manhunt for the suspects. “Police members were called to the crime scene, where they found the victims inside an informal dwelling with gunshot wounds to their bodies.”
Residents say the community has been living in fear as gang-related shootings continue to claim lives.
“We can’t even allow our children to play outside anymore. Every week there are gunshots, and people are dying like flies,” stated a resident who asked to remain anonymous.
“Police only come after someone has been killed. By then it’s too late. We feel abandoned,” added the resident, expressing frustration over the lack of visible policing in the area.
