(The Post News) – The South African Football Association (SAFA) replied without remorse, however, with a motion of appeal shortly after FIFA stated that Bafana Bafana was going to lose points after selecting an unauthorized player for the World Cup qualifying match against Lesotho.
SAFA decided to go a little defensive and be ready to contest the decision instead of accepting full liability regarding what is, by any measure, an avoidable operational disaster, rather than immediately admitting the seriousness of their mistake. This response is quite disheartening for an organization entrusted with preserving the authenticity of South African soccer.
The release said, “We will consider the next course of action at the end of the qualifications season and sincerely apologize to the country for the unfortunate organizational mistake.” Lastly, we urge everyone in South Africa to support the squad throughout this last and important qualifying round.
The phrase “don’t blame us, instead, simply encourage Bafana” sounds insincere.
They possess an extensive record of dispute, but the most recent event just serves to heighten the need for reform. ActionSA has previously called for Danny Jordaan, the current leader of SAFA, to quit immediately. It is now difficult to overlook the push for improvements, irrespective of what unfolds.
There is a good probability SAFA will attempt to hide the event if Bafana still qualifies. Furthermore, should they fail to meet the requirements, history indicates that an individual much weaker than the real culprits will be held accountable.
In any case, responsibility seems to be at a disadvantage. Furthermore, South African football as well as its supporters are entitled to greater.
