(The Post News)- This past week, the long-simmering rivalry involving Cardi B and Nicki Minaj was rekindled with full intensity, transforming it into a worldwide circus.
Over the period of three intense days, what started out as a musical battle swiftly descended into personalized insults and both rappers exchanging hits on X.
Cardi B’s announcement that her most recent album, Am I the Drama?, had achieved double platinum status ten days following its debut, an accomplishment verified by the RIAA, sparked a controversy on September 29. With more than 200,000 copies sold and 146 million streams in the week that followed, the album also made its debut at the top of the Billboard 200.
Minaj seemed to doubt the accuracy of such figures, suggesting that revenues were exaggerated. Cardi B responded with a flurry of barely disguised messages criticizing Minaj’s professional stalling and ignoring the criticism. She advised Minaj to compare her to the greats of her own time rather than to up-and-coming musicians.
However, the rivalry went beyond ego and statistics. When the two musicians included each other’s relatives in the altercation, it reached an unusual and awkward low, according to norms of hip-hop beefs. According to reports, Cardi B brought up Minaj’s previous infertility issues, and Minaj responded by making fun of Cardi’s kids. The remarks sparked internet indignation and escalated the conflict to a very personal level.
Even though the family-related messages were subsequently removed by each side, the controversy was stoked when copies of the tweets swiftly went viral on fan sites and gossip blogs. Cardi B issued what she deemed her final message, calling Minaj by her official name, Onika Tanya Maraj, as if she were finished with the media’s back-and-forth.
Cardi slammed her spouse for escalating the tension and blamed Minaj for allowing negativity in a lengthy message. She concluded with the ominous words, “I’ll see you when I see you,” a warning indicating their rivalry had transcended social media. Cardi claimed to be backing off, but the internet feud continued. As she posted more, Minaj included media personalities Gayle King and Harvey Levin in the discussion.
The Cardi-Nicki relationship has alternated between quiet stretches and outbursts of social controversy ever since their notorious physical brawl at a fashion showcase in 2018. However, this most recent part is probably the most heated and intimate to date.
What began as a rivalry over records has evolved into a bitter rivalry driven by pride, hurt, and intense animosity. Supporters are left to see a conflict that appears much more genuine than a spectacle.
