(The Post News)– George Russell powered to an impressive victory, going home with a Team’s Championship under the dazzling lights of the Singapore Grand Prix Formula 1, finishing more than five seconds ahead of Max Verstappen. Meanwhile, Lando Norris completed the podium in third place at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, after a strong start from fifth on the grid.
Russell wasted no time making moves, overtaking Kimi Antonelli and teammate Oscar Piastri on the opening lap of the demanding 62-lap race. But the usually calm atmosphere at McLaren turned tense early on, with Piastri visibly frustrated after contact with Norris in the first few corners.
What Piastri did not know was that Norris had already brushed against Verstappen’s car, damaging his front wing and causing the collision with his teammate. Later in the race, Norris refused to let Piastri pit first, a decision influenced by his bad luck in Monza, and it proved to be the right one, as Piastri suffered a slow pit stop that cost him valuable time.
Despite the internal drama, the result was a huge win for McLaren. By securing at least 13 points, the team sealed its second straight constructors’ championship, their first back-to-back title since 1991. But as the season heads toward its climax, questions linger about whether this rivalry could crack McLaren’s friendly façade and turn the fight for the drivers’ title into something far more personal.
Russell: Ready to Secure World Title
Following Sunday’s victory at the Singapore GP, Russell has expressed readiness for a world title. Russell feels his composed performance on Sunday is evidence of his development as a driver, and the victory came on a course where he had crashed two years prior when attempting to win in the closing laps.
According to Russel, he is a different driver than he was years ago, and he feels “more complete” and “more confident.” Russell also expressed that he was “nervous” prior to the race, and he believed he had a winning chance, which made him feel comfortable.
