(The Post News) – Days after the first thorough effort stopped, the search for Elaine McSorley, a 71-year-old British tourist who went missing, was abruptly resumed. As authorities continue to look into disturbing speculations that the hiker may have been the victim of foul play or possibly eaten by a crocodile, the attempts have continued.
On Saturday, September 27, 2025, McSorley disappeared after she and her husband parted ways while walking from the Ghost Mountain Inn and Safari Lodge to a local dam that is said to be home to hippos
Extensive Search Efforts Renewed
After failing to locate the woman, the extensive search, which involved hundreds of volunteers, K9 units, drones, and helicopters, was officially called off. Authorities have, however, resumed activities as a result of the inquiry in an effort to focus the search area and pursue fresh leads.
In the past, Police Lieutenant Colonel Paul Magwaza had complained, “It is like she has vanished into thin air.” However, local volunteers and SAPS Search and Rescue units have returned to the region, demonstrating the continued dedication to locating McSorley.
Grave Theories and Husband’s Departure
Since there is no conclusive evidence, authorities have been forced to explore unsettling possibilities, which is why they have decided to renew the hunt. Although there is currently no evidence to support either theory, investigators are taking seriously the theories that McSorley was either taken by a crocodile near the dam or was the victim of foul play.
When last seen, Elaine McSorley was dressed in black slacks and a white shirt. Police want anyone with information to call Crime Stop at 086 00 10111 or call Detective Sergeant SJ Khoza at 072 127 8765 or 035 573 1088.
