(The Post News) – When Stormers head coach John Dobson decided to start Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu and Damian Willemse when facing the Scarlets during today’s game, he didn’t think twice.
The timing seemed ideal because both players were already in the UK and had just returned from the Springboks’ Rugby Championship victory. “It made total sense because they were eager to play and we were going that way too, they’re eager to get started, but it will be necessary to give them some time to rest later,” Dobson said.
Feinberg-Mngomezulu will play at flyhalf and join Wandisile Simelane and captain Ruhan Nel in the midfield. Willemse brings experience and composure to the backline as a fullback. The Stormers unveil a new front row, with Ali Vermaak, Sazi Sandi, and JJ Kotzé receiving the nod.
Cobus Reinach, a scrumhalf for the Springboks, is expected to join the group later throughout the tour, Dobson also revealed. After being away with Montpellier and the national team, Reinach is spending some of his time to settle in Cape Town with his loved ones. Dobson smiled and remarked, “They recently moved, and I suppose his wife required a hand at home.”
Dobson thinks the Stormers’ 6-2 split on the bench will give them an advantage in the physical clashes. “Our forwards definitely wore out the opponents in the initial two matches, Having 14 forwards on hand allows us to maintain our strength until the very end because we can maintain pressure without overworking anyone,” he added.
