(The Post News) – The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued multiple severe weather warnings for Sunday, 12 October 2025 with KwaZulu-Natal placed under the highest alert level as the province braces for damaging thunderstorms.
A yellow level 4 warning has been issued for KZN, where residents can expect heavy downpours, damaging winds, excessive lightning and large amounts of small hail.
SAWS in a statement reported that the severe weather could lead to localised flooding of roads and damages inlow laying homes rather buildings. “These conditions are likely to cause disruptions to traffic, minor vehicle accidents and localised damage to infrastructure and property,” the statement said.
According to SAWS, informal settlements, agricultural activities, and livestock are particularly at risk. “The public is urged to take necessary precautions and avoid crossing flooded roads or bridges,” they stated.
SAWS Warns Fire in Some Provinces due to Heavy Weather
In other provinces, Mpumalanga has been placed under a yellow level 2 warning. Reports predicts thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain, strong winds, lightning and hail.
In addition to storm alerts, fire danger warnings have been issued for parts of the North West and Limpopo provinces. “Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the Kagisano-Molopo Local Municipality of North West and the extreme northern parts of Limpopo,” SAWS said.
Authorities are advising residents to remain on alert, secure outdoor items, and monitor weather updates throughout the day. “We urge the public to stay informed and prioritise safety during these severe weather conditions,” SAWS stated in a statement.
