(The Post Net)– A horrific bus accident on the N1 highway near Louis Trichardt has claimed the lives of at least 35 people. Rescue crews continue their operations to recover any victims trapped in the wreckage.
A Blue Cycle bus that DNC Radonha had rented was involved in the collision, which happened on Sunday afternoon near the Ingwe Lodge on the route between Makhado and Musina. The bus was transporting Malawian and Zimbabwean citizens on a long-distance journey from Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) to Harare, Zimbabwe.
According to early reports, witnesses described the scene as chaotic as the bus lost control, drove off the road, and rolled down a steep hill before landing on its roof.
Police, traffic police, and emergency services personnel are all involved in the ongoing search and rescue operations. Since Sunday night, authorities have reported that more than ten bodies have been recovered from the accident, bringing the total number of fatalities to a startling 35.
MEC Violet Mathye of the Limpopo Transport Department was on the site to oversee the complicated rescue effort. Matome Taueatsoala, the department spokesperson, attested to the incident’s seriousness.
Due to the active and dangerous nature of the scene, motorists are advised to avoid the area and follow official instructions.
