(The Post News)– Four suspects have been arrested following a brutal attack on Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) officials in Pretoria West.
According to TMPD spokesperson, Isaac Mahamba, its members were attacked during a visible policing patrol in the early hours of Sunday, October 12, 2025.
“Pretoria West members were on a night shift visible policing routine patrol when they noticed a suspicious vehicle with four occupants at the intersection of WF Nkomo St and Elandfontein Road at around 1:41 on Sunday morning,” he stated. He said they stopped the vehicle to investigate, however, the passengers, who were under the influence of alcohol refused to cooperate. According to Mahamba, the suspects got violent and attacked TMPD staff.
TMPD Officers Sustained Injuries
Mahamba said two members were injured during the altercation, prompting a call for backup. “When backup arrived, the suspects realised they were outnumbered and attempted to flee the scene by driving off,” he said, further stating that in the process, they hit a member and damaged a police vehicle.
Moreover, he said the suspects have been arrested and detained at the local police station, pending court appearance. Mahamba revealed that the suspects have been charged with ” assault, attempted murder, and malicious damage to property.”
He further said the two injured members were taken to the hospital for medical treatment and later discharged. “The TMPD is determined to protect its members and will not tolerate any form of disregard for the law,” said Mahamba.
Meanwhile, according to Mahamba, he TMPD Chief of Police, Commissioner YCR Faro commended the members for their bravery and wishes the members who were injured speedy recovery. “She also issued a stern warning to the public, stating that any individual who tries us well find us ready and will face consequences that match their actions,” he noted.
