(The Post News) – Rescuers have confirmed that a four-month-old baby girl miraculously survived the horrific bus disaster near Louis Trichardt, giving rise to a sense of hope.
During the tragic scenario where the bus toppled, the baby, who apparently only had minor scratches, was discovered alive. She and other accident survivors are presently recovering in a hospital. As the identification procedure begins, authorities are still attempting to learn about her parents’ status.
Identification Underway
The long-distance bus that was travelling from Gqeberha to Harare, Zimbabwe, went off the N1 on Sunday afternoon, killing 43 people, including seven children, according to the most recent official tally from the Limpopo Provincial Government.
“Seventeen families have arrived at Tshilidzini hospital to identify their loved one,” said Muavha. The pathology team is working to conclude postmortem examinations on Wednesday, and the provincial government is encouraging all concerned families to visit the hospital to aid in the identification of the remaining victims.
Speeding and Overloading Cited
According to initial investigations, overloading and speeding may have contributed to the fatal crash, said Transport Minister Barbara Creecy. Given that numerous casualties were flung off the bus as it fell down the slope, the minister emphasised the importance of collaboration between South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Malawi in handling the aftermath.
Six of the 49 accident survivors are still in serious condition while they receive care at the hospitals in Siloam, Elim, and Tshilidzini. For individuals impacted, the government still arranges for medical care and mental trauma support.
