(The Post News)– England Women have officially booked their spot in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 semi-finals after a nail-biting four-run victory over India on Sunday, posting 288/8 in their innings.
It was a thrilling contest that kept fans on the edge of their seats until the very last over. India seemed to be cruising towards the target, but England held their nerve when it mattered most. With this win, England now joins Australia and South Africa in the final four, leaving just one semi-final spot still up for grabs.
Speaking after the match, England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt could not hide her joy: “I’m just so, so happy. Everyone stayed calm and stuck to their plans. When that partnership started building, it looked like India might chase it down easily, but we knew one wicket could turn things around, and it did. We talked before the game about being ready for pressure moments like that, and I think everyone handled it brilliantly.”
As for India, it was heartbreak once again. Despite a strong chase, they fell agonizingly short, finishing four runs behind. A late boundary from Amanjot Kaur gave a glimmer of hope, but it came too late to change the outcome.
With the English Women safely through, attention now shifts to Navi Mumbai, where Sri Lanka is currently facing Bangladesh. England’s next challenge will be a high-stakes clash against arch-rivals Australia on Wednesday, a game that promises fireworks.
