(The Post News)– Tommy Fleetwood capped off a remarkable few weeks in style, claiming a commanding two-shot victory at the first DP World India Championship in New Delhi.
Fleetwood produced a dazzling final-round display, turning a two-shot overnight shortage into victory with a stunning burst of five birdies in seven holes. His steady rhythm and confident shot-making saw him post eight birdies and just one bogey, closing out the tournament at 22 under par. Nakajima settled for second on 20 under, while Shane Lowry, Alex Fitzpatrick, and Thriston Lawrence shared third—three shots back.
A late highlight came from Viktor Hovland, who chipped in for an eagle on the final hole to tie for sixth alongside Jayden Schaper and Joost Luiten. Daniel Hillier, who had surged ahead early with seven birdies in his first 10 holes, slipped down the leaderboard after a rough finish featuring two bogeys and a double bogey, ending in a tie for ninth.
How Fleetwood Sealed the Win
Fleetwood wasted no time cutting into Nakajima’s lead, opening with a calm two-putt birdie on the first hole while his playing partner had to scramble for par. A misjudged approach on the next hole led to a bogey, briefly halting his momentum, but Fleetwood quickly recovered. As Lowry climbed into contention with early birdies of his own, Fleetwood steadied himself and rolled in a 15-foot birdie at the fourth, a sign of the confidence and precision that would carry him through the rest of the round.
It was a composed, mature performance from the FedEx Cup champion, one that underlined why 2025 is shaping up to be one of the best seasons of his career.
