(The Post News) – Hundreds of citizens mobilised under the coalition of #StandUpSA and Enough is Enough have called for the removal of President Cyril Ramaphosa.
In a peaceful march to the Union Buildings on October 20, 2025, the group delivered a memorandum of demands to the Presidency and called out the president on what they say is ‘repeated failure on South African citizens.’
The group asserts that South Africa is ‘on the brink of collapse’ and that president Ramaphosa must be held accountable for the country’s severe economic and governance crises.
Spokesperson for #StandUpSA, Khustaz Mtwentwe, underscored the frustration felt by citizens, contending that Ramaphosa is presiding over a country that is going to ruin.
“Ramaphosa has failed to lead the country into prosperity and as such we want him to go. I don’t think that any South African does not know that their conditions are worse than before,” he said.
He highlighted that some of the deep-rooted issues that Ramaphosa has failed to address since office include crime and corruption, job creation, accountability and transparency.
“We are facing a very dire situation where thousands and thousands of South Africans are losing jobs. He doesn’t tweet about that, but he will tweet about Gaza almost every day except for the people who elected him in office,” said Mtwentwe.
Furthermore, he said the groups demand immediate transparency regarding the country’s financial agreements.
“He borrows a lot of money from European Unions. The billions that he borrowed two weeks ago, we don’t even know the terms and conditions of the money as a nation,” he said.
Th group demanded that the Presidency publish the full terms and conditions of all European Union loans.
Ultimately, the groups see the president’s inaction as a deliberate choice, recalling his alleged declaration that “He’d rather be considered a weak president, than to break the ANC”.
“He has dragged us down too long. Since 2018, he has not brought anything positive for South Africans”.
“What he has done is misery, absolute corruption and absolute disrepute in terms of governance of the state. So, he must step down and go home in Phalaphala,” said Mtwentwe
Moreover, founder of Enough is Enough Movement shared the same sentiments, emphasising the necessity of citizen action.
“No one is coming to save us. We must be the people who save ourselves and save our futures… We’re here to call the president to either step down or step up because he’s not saying anything. His silence is loud,” she said.
She further said the groups demand that the State Security must be removed from the presidents office.
“It is meant to protect South Africans from domestic and foreign threats. It is not for his personal and associate’s protection,” she said.
The coalition set a firm and non-negotiable deadline for the Presidency to demonstrate genuine commitment to the people.
The secretary in the private office of the president, Sibusiso Mabuza received and signed the memorandum of demands.
