(The Post News) – Crime expert and private forensic investigator Calvin Rafadi has resigned from his position at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) after being implicated in the Madlanga Commission for allegedly soliciting favours from attempted murder-accused businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.
UJ spokesperson Herman Esterhuizen confirmed Rafadi’s resignation. “In addition to the response below, I have just been informed that Mr Rafadi has since tendered his resignation from his role and responsibilities at the university,” Esterhuizen said.
According to Esterhuizen, Rafadi was not a full-time employee but served as a research associate linked to one of the university’s research chairs. “Mr Calvin Rafadi is a research associate at one of the university’s research chairs. He is not a full-time employee of the university, nor does he represent it in any official capacity,” Esterhuizen reported.
These allegations came up from WhatsApp messages presented by a protected witness, known as Witness X, before the commission.
UJ Distances Itself from Rafadi’s Allegations
UJ distanced itself from Rafadi allegations. Stating that he does not not speak for them. “Everyone who follows parliamentary affairs, particularly the media, knows that parliamentary questions and replies are published in the Hansard and publicly accessible to all,” Esterhuizen stated.
He added that the university had launched an internal process to address the matter after Rafadi’s name was mentioned in testimony before the Madlanga Commission. “It has been brought to the university’s attention that his name was mentioned in one of the testimonies presented to the Madlanga Commission. The university is actively addressing the matter internally,” Esterhuizen said.
