(The Post News) – Jannik Sinner has made a major decision regarding his 2025 schedule, confirming that he will not compete on the upcoming Davis Cup Finals in Bologna later this year. The announcement was made by Italy’s captain Filippo Volandri, who revealed that the world number two “has not made himself available for 2025.”
The four-time Grand Slam champion had already hinted at the possibility of skipping the tournament during the China Open last month, when he told reporters, “The truth is that I have not decided whether or not to play the Davis Cup. I will make that choice later. Right now, I’m only focused on my upcoming tournaments.”
Volandri, while confirming Sinner’s absence, emphasized that the door remains open for his future return: “The Davis Cup is, and will always be, his home, and I’m sure Jannik will soon return to the team.”
The Final 8 stage of the 2025 Davis Cup, set for November 18–23 in Bologna, will mark the first time the competition is hosted in Italy. Angelo Binaghi, president of the Italian Tennis Federation, said the federation fully respects Sinner’s decision, even if it comes as a blow: “We understand and respect Jannik’s choice, though it’s very painful for us. It comes at the end of a long and demanding season, in which he once again proved himself as an extraordinary figure in Italian tennis.”
Sinner has been a cornerstone of Italy’s success in recent years, having led the team to back-to-back Davis Cup titles in Malaga. For now, however, his focus remains on his busy year-end schedule. He is currently competing at the ATP 500 in Vienna, where he opens against Germany’s Daniel Altmaier, before heading to the Paris Masters and then closing his season at the ATP Finals in Turin, which end just a week before the Davis Cup Finals begin.
