(The Post News)- The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a forecast of hot, dry, and partly cloudy conditions across the country for Wednesday, 22 October 2025, with heatwave and fire danger warnings in place for several regions.
SAWS reported that most parts of South Africa can expect fine and warm weather after patches of morning fog. However residants can expect very hot and uncomfortable conditions to persist over parts of the Western and Northern Cape, raising concerns about potential wildfires and heat-related health risks.
“Extreme high fire danger conditions are expected over the western parts of the Northern Cape, the north-east and extreme north-western parts of the Western Cape, as well as the extreme western parts of the Eastern Cape,” said SAWS.
According to SAWS, heatwave conditions with persistently hot temperatures are expected in the Richtersveld Local Municipality in the Northern Cape and Matzikama Local Municipality in the Western Cape. Residents in these areas are urged to take precautions, avoid open flames, and stay hydrated.
SAWS has urged the public to stay alert for weather updates and to report any fire outbreaks immediately, as the combination of heat, dryness, and strong winds could rapidly fuel wildfires. “We’re advising communities, particularly in the western parts of the country, to exercise extreme caution.
“These conditions increase the risk of runaway fires and heat-related illnesses,” SAWS said in a statement.
