(The Post News) – Upington City FC has named former Moroka Swallows coach Musa Nyatama as head coach after Abram Mongoya’s exit. Former Orlando Pirate and Moroka Swallows midfielder, Musa Nyatama, has signed a two-year contract.
The decision follows a disciplinary battle in which the club parted company with previous coach Abram Mongoya. The Motsepe Foundation Championship side moved swiftly to secure Nyatama’s signature after indications that Mongoya’s tenure had reached an inevitable conclusion.
Mongoya has been subject to an internal disciplinary process due to what the club considered gross misconduct after he abandoned his club duties to take up a role with the Lesotho national team without the required club approval.
The appointment sees Nyatama finally take up the Upington City post, a role he was previously linked with before the start of the current season. Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns former player started his managerial career after Chippa United appointed him to serve as assistant to Sinethemba Badela.
Nyatama now joins the Northern Cape team with his coaching background, which includes a successful stint as Swallows’ interim coach during which he kept the team from relegation. Upington has won three of their last six games, drawn one, and lost two, placing them sixth in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
After the coaching crisis diverted attention, “Bafana Ba Gucci” hope Nyatama can offer stability right away and present a genuine fight for promotion.
