(The Post News)– Despite the unpredictable weather, South Africa’s Proteas Women continued their impressive run at the Women’s Cricket World Cup, securing their fifth straight win with a dominant 150-run victory over Pakistan. The result firmly places the Proteas Women among the top three on the log as they now turn their attention to the upcoming semi-finals.
Proteas Women’s Captain Takes the Spotlight
Batting first in a rain-affected match, South Africa piled on an imposing 312 for nine in a reduced 40-over innings, thanks to strong half-centuries from captain Laura Wolvaardt, Suné Luus, and Marizanne Kapp. Wolvaardt once again led from the front, top-scoring with a fluent 90 off 82 balls before rain once more halted play at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
After multiple weather interruptions, Pakistan’s target was revised several times, from 306 in 40 overs to 262 in 25 overs, and finally to 234 in 20 overs under the DLS Method. Even with the shortened chase, Pakistan struggled to find rhythm, finishing on 83 for seven after 20 overs.
The constant rain made it a stop-start affair, yet both teams managed to complete enough overs for a result. South Africa’s consistency shone through, with Wolvaardt’s aggressive knock anchoring their total before the bowlers wrapped up Pakistan’s innings with ease.
For Pakistan, the defeat marked the end of a disappointing campaign, as they bowed out of the tournament without a single win in six matches. Their exit confirms that the semi-finals and the final, scheduled for November 2, will all be played in India.
