(The Post News)– Storm Benjamin, officially named by Météo France, is expected to bring wet and windy weather to parts of the United Kingdom on Thursday, 23 October 2025.
According to the Met Office, heavy rain and strong winds could cause localized flooding, travel disruption, and minor damage across southern and eastern England as the storm moves northeast. A yellow severe weather warning has been issued for both rain and wind. “The rain warning covers much of southern and eastern England from midnight on Wednesday through to 21:00 BST on Thursday,” the Met Office added.
According to forecasters, storm Benjamin is expected to bring rainfall of 20–30 mm (around 1 inch) widely, with up to 50 mm (2 inches) possible in some areas. “Devon, Cornwall, the East Midlands, Lincolnshire, Humberside, and East Anglia are most at risk of higher rainfall amounts,” stated the forecasters.
Storm Benjamin Might Cause Floods
The Met Office has cautioned that localized flooding and disruption to transport are possible as a result of the downpours. “In addition to the rain, strong winds are expected to sweep through parts of eastern and southern England. A yellow wind warning is in place for eastern areas, including Kent and Sussex, from 03:00 until 23:59 BST on Thursday, while another covers west Wales and southwest England between 06:00 and 15:00 BST,” said the Met Office.
Reports indicate that gusts of 45–55 mph (70–90 km/h) are likely, with exposed coastal areas potentially experiencing winds up to 60 mph (97 km/h). The Met Office also warned there is a small chance of even stronger gusts, up to 75 mph (120 km/h), for a short period later on Thursday morning along parts of the North Sea coast.
The Met Office added that storm Benjamin could topple trees or branches, cause travel delays, and lead to isolated power outages.
