(The Post News)– Lionel Messi has extended his contract with Inter Miami until 2028, remaining in the US ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Messi signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with Inter Miami that was set to expire at the end of the 2025 Major League Soccer season after co-owner Beckham first lured the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner to the club in 2023.
In Inter Miami’s press release, Messi noted that he is pleased to continue with his contribution to the club, expressing that playing at Inter Miami Park Stadium is a dream that “has become reality. “Since I arrived in Miami, I’ve been pleased, so I’m truly glad to keep going here,” Messi further expressed.
Meanwhile, Inter Miami posted a video on social media X of Messi signing a new contract, with the caption “HE’S HOME.” The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner will remain in South Florida until 2028, Inter Miami said.
According to Inter Miami, the renewed contract will see Messi and Inter Miami embark on a historic new chapter in 2026, as the club makes its move to its new home in the heart of Miami, located at Miami Freedom Park. The world-class stadium is situated within a 131-acre entertainment, retail, hospitality, and commercial district that also opens in phases beginning in 2026.

According to Beckham, they demonstrated their dedication to Miami by bringing the greatest player in history to their city, but Messi’s dedication to the city, the team, and the sport is also evident—he still wants to win and is just as dedicated as ever. Moreover, Beckham also noted that as owners, they consider themselves extremely fortunate to have a player that shares their passion for the game, has contributed significantly to the game in this nation, and may serve as an inspiration to the upcoming generation of young talent.
David Beckham views Messi’s contract extension as loyalty to the team, fans, and the badge. “He’s still as committed as he’s ever been, and he still wants to win,” Beckham said.
