(The Post News)– In the Champions League, Liverpool defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 5-1 to end their four-game losing skid in all competitions.
Before the game began, manager Arne Slot made headlines by benching star forward Mo Salah for the second straight European match. At first, this seemed like a bold choice. Rasmus Kristensen, a 26-year-old former Leeds defender, put the home team ahead with a deft offensive play on the first try.
However, Hugo Ekitike (35), who calmly tucked home against his old team after Andy Robertson put a crisp cross through, gave Liverpool a swift response.
Liverpool Leads 3-1 at Halftime
Just nine minutes before halftime, Liverpool scored two more goals after that equalizer, starting a disastrous run of play. The visitors led 3-1 at the half when the German defense collapsed once more, allowing Ibrahima Konaté (44) and Virgil van Dijk (39) to head in from corners.
Federico Chiesa took Alexander Isak’s place after the half, but Liverpool’s onslaught remained relentless. Cody Gakpo’s (66) fourth goal was set up by Florian Wirtz, and Dominik Szoboszlai’s (70) incredible long-range goal that slid into the bottom corner completed the victory.
Salah’s goal drought now stands at six games as he came on for the last fifteen minutes and created a couple chances but was unable to score. Nevertheless, Liverpool’s commanding performance was a crucial turning point and gave Slot’s team a victory that boosted their confidence.
