(The Post News)- Rain and wind warnings have been issued across parts of the United Kingdom as Storm Benjamin moves in from the English Channel, bringing the potential for flooding and travel disruption.
The Met Office reported that it has four yellow weather warnings in place, mainly covering much of southern and eastern England and Wales. The storm, named by the French weather service Météo France, is expected to track across the UK and into the North Sea throughout the weekend.
A yellow warning for rain is in effect until 18:00 BST on Thursday, 23 October 2025, stretching across most of southern England, the East Midlands, parts of Wales, and Yorkshire. Forecasters say some areas could see between 30 and 50 millimeters of rainfall, raising the risk of surface flooding and difficult driving conditions.
One Fatal Incident and Heavy Rain in Germany
According to reports, on the French island of Corsica, a 45-year-old German man died after being swept away by a sudden torrent of water while swimming in a river with his family on Thursday. The Cismonte fire and rescue service stated that the man’s wife and two daughters, aged 9 and 13, were rescued, but his body was later found downstream.
Reports added that all of Corsica was placed under an orange weather alert, with Météo France warning of wind gusts reaching up to 170 kilometers per hour (106 miles per hour) and strong waves expected along the island’s southern coastline from Thursday night into Friday.
The severe rainy weather has also caused widespread travel disruption. Many flights on and off the island have been delayed or cancelled. “Due to adverse weather conditions affecting several of our airports, there are major disruptions to our flight schedule today,” airline Air Corsica said in a Facebook post.
Ferry services to and from Corsica have also been suspended as the storm continues to bring hazardous sea conditions.
Forecasters warn that the UK could face continued rainy and windy conditions into the weekend as Storm Benjamin moves north-eastward, with the potential for further weather warnings to be issued.
