(The Post News)- The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a warning for “extremely hot and uncomfortable conditions” in the north-eastern regions of the country on Sunday, specifically targeting the Limpopo Valley and Lowveld areas of Limpopo and Mpumalanga.
- Gauteng: Partly cloudy and warm with isolated thunderstorms in the south. High fire danger conditions expected. (Size: approximately 18,178 km²)
- Limpopo: Partly cloudy in the south, otherwise fine and hot to very hot. Extremely hot conditions expected in the Lowveld and Limpopo Valley. (Size: approximately 125,754 km²)
- Mpumalanga: Partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated thunderstorms in the extreme south. High temperatures expected in the Lowveld. (Size: approximately 79,490 km²)
- North West: Partly cloudy, windy, and hot with isolated thunderstorms over the central parts. Extremely high fire danger conditions expected. (Size: approximately 104,882 km²)
- Free State: Partly cloudy, windy, and warm to hot with isolated afternoon thunderstorms, except in the western parts. Extremely high fire danger conditions expected in the eastern parts. (Size: approximately 129,825 km²)
- Eastern Cape: Cloudy with widespread showers and rain along the coast and adjacent interior. (Size: approximately 169,580 km²)
- Western Cape: Partly cloudy and cold to cool with isolated showers and rain except over the West Coast District until the afternoon. (Size: approximately 129,462 km²)
- KwaZulu-Natal: Partly cloudy, windy, and warm to hot with isolated afternoon thunderstorms, except in the western parts. (Size: approximately 94,361 km²)
- Northern Cape: Fine, windy, and warm, but partly cloudy in the south where it is cool. (Size: approximately 372,889 km²)
The SAWS has also warned of dangerous fire conditions in several provinces, including North West, Limpopo, Gauteng, and eastern Free State. Meanwhile, the southern and central parts of the country can expect rain, with an 80% chance along the south-eastern coast.
