(The Post News)- Six people have died and eight others sustained serious injuries when a minibustaxi and GWM Tank sport utility vehicle (SUV) crashed on the R540 road near Dullstroom, Mpumalanga, on Sunday, 26 October 2025.
The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security, and Liaison stated that the crash occurred in the afternoon around 14:00 pm and was a T-bone collision. All six victims who died were passengers in the taxi and were declared dead at the scene. Eight others who sustained serious injuries were rushed to a hospital in Belfast for medical treatment: seven passengers and the driver of the SUV.
The department’s spokesperson, Moeti Mmusi, reported that the driver of the minibus taxi sustained slight injuries.
Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security, and Liaison Jackie Macie stated that the cause of the crash is still unknown, but it is still under investigation. “We remain deeply concerned by the number of fatalities caused by road crashes that could be avoided with more responsible driving. Motorists should always be mindful that their mistakes while driving could be devastating not only for them but for other road users,” Macie said.

Meanwhile, Macie added that the crash comes before the festive season, when the importance of road safety is highly emphasized. “It is unfortunate that while the importance of safe transportation of goods and people is highlighted during October Transport Month, people continue to lose their lives from road crashes. This needs to change, and motorists are an integral part of making the road safer,” he said.
According to reports, the crash follows another fatal accident on Saturday on the N11 between Middelburg and Loskop Dam. Four people died after a Toyota Avanza overturned; 3 women and 1 child were declared dead at the scene. Reports added that the driver and others sustained minor injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
