(The Post News)– Eight suspects were arrested shortly after committing a business robbery at Sutherland Ridge in Centurion on Tuesday, October 28.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson, Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, the arrests followed a high-speed chase and a subsequent shootout with security personnel.
The robbery took place when the suspects allegedly held up a local store at gunpoint, forcing staff to load stolen stock into a waiting truck before fleeing. The suspect’s getaway truck was reportedly escorted by a Kia vehicle.
Pursuit and Exchange of Fire
Nevhuhulwi said security personnel were alerted immediately and successfully tracked the vehicles onto the R55 road near Raslouw, within the Wiedabrug policing precinct.
She said when security attempted to intercept the convoy, the suspects opened fire, leading to a dramatic exchange of shots, in which two individuals sustained injuries. “Shots were fired between security personnel and the suspects. In the process, one suspect and a security guard sustained gunshot injuries,” she said. Nevhuhulwi then said police were called to the scene during the active shooting. They quickly moved to secure the area and finalize the arrests.
“The police were called during the shooting, and eight suspects, including the injured one, have since been arrested.” In addition, police seized two firearms, the getaway truck, and the Kia escort vehicle for further investigation.
