(The Post News)– A major intelligence-driven operation has led to the discovery and seizure of 80 kilograms of cocaine with an estimated street value of R20 million at a small holding in Midrand, Gauteng.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), on the evening of Tuesday, October 28, 2025, a multidisciplinary team led by Crime Intelligence Head Office, consisting of the Gauteng Organized Crime unit, SAPS JHB K9, and members of the Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC), executed the raid.
SAPS said the operation targeted a plot in the Blue Hills area following information that the premises was being used to store illicit narcotics. “They were following up on information of drugs that were being stored at a plot in Blue Hills, Midrand,” said police.
Targeting the Smuggling Network
Police then said further investigation revealed the crucial role the Midrand property played in a transnational drug smuggling network. “According to further investigation, the drugs were brought into South Africa from a neighbouring country and were destined for Cape Town, Western Cape,” said SAPS.
They added that the narcotics were found hidden in a storage room on the identified plot. Moreover, a 56-year-old man, believed to be the owner of the plot, was immediately arrested at the scene.
The arrested suspect is expected to appear before the Midrand Magistrate’s Court later this week. SAPS said the suspect will face serious charges, including the possession of drugs and dealing in drugs, as authorities work to establish his full role in the smuggling ring.
