(The Post News)– The New England Patriots earned a dramatic 24–23 victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday afternoon, reclaiming first place in the AFC East for the first time since 2021. The narrow win came after Atlanta missed a potential game-tying extra point in the closing minutes at Gillette Stadium.
Wide receiver Pop Douglas turned in a courageous effort just a day after tragedy struck his family. Playing through the grief of his uncle’s murder in Rhode Island, Douglas caught six passes for 100 yards and a touchdown, earning an emotional ovation from the home crowd.
Head coach Jerod Mayo praised Douglas’s composure, stating that Pop showed incredible strength and heart. “His performance meant a lot to this team,” he said.
Veteran wideout Stefon Diggs added a touchdown reception, showcasing growing chemistry with Maye as the Patriots’ offense continued its resurgence. The duo connected on several key third-down plays, including a 28-yard score that put New England ahead early in the fourth quarter.
The Falcons mounted a late comeback, but kicker Younghoe Koo’s missed extra point following a 75-yard touchdown drive proved costly, sealing the Patriots’ one-point win.
Cardi B Shows Up to Support Diggs
Adding a touch of celebrity flair to the afternoon, rapper Cardi B was spotted in Robert Kraft’s suite, supporting her boyfriend, Stefon Diggs. Cameras caught her celebrating his touchdown, drawing cheers from the Foxborough crowd and lighting up social media.
With the win, New England moved to the top of the AFC East standings, overtaking the Buffalo Bills for the first time in four years. The victory marks a statement moment in the team’s rebuilding era under Coach Mayo and rookie signal-caller Maye. The Patriots will look to continue their momentum when they travel to face the New York Jets next Sunday.
