(The Post News) – Deputy Minister of Police Dr Shela Boshielo appeared before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee on National Security on Tuesday, 04 November 2025 where she gave testimony on alleged criminal infiltration, corruption, and political interference within the justice system.
The committee was established following explosive claims made in July by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, who alleged that criminal networks had infiltrated state security structures.
Dr Boshielo Will be The Seventh Witness
Dr Boshielo, who was appointed Deputy Minister of Police in July last year, is the seventh witness to testify before the committee. Her testimony is expected to focus on the functioning and challenges of the Political Killings Task Team, a unit central to addressing politically motivated murders in South Africa, particularly in KwaZulu-Natal.
Her appearance comes a week after Deputy Minister Cassel Mathale reported to the committee that internal dysfunction within the Police Ministry was hampering effective governance. Mathale stated that, despite serving in his position for more than a year, he had “not been delegated any tasks” by Minister Senzo Mchunu, who is currently on special leave.
Mathale said, “You are talking of over a hundred thousand men and women who are in uniform, and those that are rogue or work with criminal elements do not represent a greater proportion of the police. You remove these rogue elements, you will have a police service that will be able to operate without people who are managed somewhere.”
Furthermore he added that “criminals are trying every trick in the book to infiltrate the system.”
