(The Post News)– Kaizer Chiefs secured a vital 4–1 victory over Orbit FC in a tense Betway Premiership encounter that showcased both attacking hunger and defensive grit.
Chiefs looked sharp from the start, creating the first big chance within six minutes when Mduduzi Shabalala forced the Orbit goalkeeper into a smart save. Their pressure paid off in the 22nd minute when Mduduzi Shabalala broke the deadlock, timing his run perfectly to latch onto a through ball before calmly finishing.
Orbit FC pushed back with determination, registering several goal attempts of their own. Monnapule Saleng came closest for the visitors with a powerful strike that tipped over the bar. Chiefs, however, kept control of the game’s tempo. Just before the break, they doubled their lead through Shabala in the 38th minute after a brilliant team move opened up space inside the box for him to score.
The second half brought an increase in physical duels and a rise in bookings as the match tempo intensified. Chiefs’ Zitha Kwinika was shown a yellow card for a late challenge in the 52nd minute, followed by late introduced Lukhele booking in the 65th minute for a tactical foul. Orbit FC’s frustration also surfaced, resulting in yellow cards for Samuel Dube in the 70th minute and Thabo Mashilo in the 78th minute. Both sides continued to test each other defensively, with Chiefs recording eight shots on target across the match while Orbit FC managed five.
Orbit FC fought back late in the game and was rewarded in the 64th minute when Lulhele finally found the net, converting from close range after a scramble in the penalty area. Chiefs never setback, they converted two goal scoring opportunities through Mfundo Vilakazi and Flavio Da Silva as Orbit FC threw everything forward in pursuit of an equalizer. Strong goalkeeping and disciplined positioning allowed Amakhosi to hold firm until the final whistle.
The win lifts the Chiefs’ confidence and strengthens their push as they climbed in the second position of the log and leveling up with the defending champions, Mamelodi Sundowns. Orbit FC, despite the defeat, can take positives from their goal threat and improved attacking sequences but will need to convert more of their chances in upcoming fixtures. Chiefs leave the evening with three hard-earned points, a performance their supporters will hope becomes a consistent standard.
