Gross calls Man City beatable, image: Dortmund via X
(The Post News) Ahead of Borussia Dortmund’s eagerly anticipated UEFA Champions League clash with Manchester City, midfielder Pascal Gross has made a bold statement, suggesting that the English champions are more beatable than they were a few years ago.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference in Dortmund, Gross said City remain an elite side but appear to be undergoing a transition period after several squad changes in recent seasons.
“Manchester City still have world-class players in every position, but they are not quite the unstoppable force they once seemed. A few key players have left, and the team is adapting. For us, that means we must believe we can compete and win,” said Gross.
The German midfielder praised City’s style of play but emphasised that Dortmund would approach the tie with tactical discipline and collective defending particularly against former Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, who continues to lead City’s attack with prolific form.
He said, “Erling is an outstanding player who puts up incredible numbers. You can’t stop him alone it has to be a team effort. We must close the spaces quickly and work for each other.”
Gross, who joined Dortmund earlier this year after a successful Premier League stint with Brighton & Hove Albion, has quickly established himself as a reliable presence in midfield, known for his intelligence and passing precision.
The match carries high stakes for both clubs. Manchester City, reigning European champions, sit second in Group C, while Dortmund trail closely behind after an impressive run of results. A win for either side would provide a crucial boost heading into the final two fixtures of the group stage.
As anticipation builds, Gross’s comments have added an extra edge to what promises to be one of the standout fixtures of this season’s Champions League.
