(The Post News)– The UMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party has announced the appointment of Des van Rooyen as the new Chief Whip, effective immediately.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the party confirmed the appointment of Van Rooyen, describing him as “a seasoned cadre of the liberation movement.” These remarks were a reference to his long history within the former uMkhonto weSizwe military wing and his extensive academic and governance background.
“Comrade van Rooyen is a seasoned cadre of the liberation movement, a former uMkhonto weSizwe operative between 1986 and 1989, and a former uMkhonto weSizwe soldier from 1989 to 1994,” said the MK Party.
According to the MK Party, Van Rooyen’s appointment is expected to strengthen and discipline the caucus while aligning it more closely with the party’s liberation ideals. “The MK Party has full confidence that under his stewardship as Chief Whip, the Parliamentary Caucus will be strengthened, disciplined, and more strategically aligned with the Party’s historic mission of completing the total liberation of the South African people,” read the statement.
Van Rooyen’s Qualifications Played a Role in His Appointment
