(The Post News)- Johannesburg police have apprehended three additional suspects in connection to the recent deadly mass shooting in Westbury, bringing the total number of arrests in the case to five.
The latest arrests mark a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the gun violence that has plagued the Westbury community.
Gauteng police spokesperson, Brenda Muridili said the three new suspects were taken into custody following intensive police operations.
“The trio, aged between 17 and 20 years old, were arrested on November 4, after they were brought to the police by their parents and lawyers,” she said.
The arrests relate to the tragic incident on Tuesday, October 21, when a group of teenagers was ambushed in a hail of bullets.
Five Suspects Now in Custody
They join two other individuals previously arrested and already appearing in court in connection with the same incident.
Moreover, Muridili said one of the initial arrests included a 36-year-old suspect who police believe may be the mastermind behind the attack. Authorities had previously also arrested a 20-year-old man linked to the shooting.
The five suspects will collectively face the full weight of the charges related to the incident, which occurred when a group of teenagers was caught in a hail of bullets.
Additionally, police have consistently stated that preliminary reports suggest the shooting was gang-related, highlighting the persistent challenge of organized crime in the area.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that intensified patrols and intelligence operations will remain in Westbury to combat the escalating trend of gun violence, aiming to dismantle the criminal structures responsible for the attacks.
The five suspects are expected to appear before the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, November 6, 2025.
