(The Post News) – Barcelona were forced to come from behind twice to salvage a dramatic 3–3 draw against Club Brugge in a pulsating UEFA Champions League encounter at the Jan Breydel Stadium on Wednesday night.
The Catalans’ defence looked fragile throughout as Brugge’s Carlos Forbs stole the show for the hosts, netting twice and assisting Nicolo Tresoldi’s opener. However, Barcelona were spared humiliation thanks to goals from Ferran Torres, Lamine Yamal, and an own goal by Christos Tzolis.
Despite ongoing injury struggles, the result offered some relief for Hansi Flick’s side, who continue to search for consistency following their recent El Clásico defeat to Real Madrid.
Club Brugge started brightly, setting the tone with high pressing and sharp attacks. Tresoldi opened the scoring early on, igniting the home crowd with a composed finish. Forbs, relentless down the right flank, continued to torment Barcelona’s backline and was rewarded with his first goal before halftime after a slick one-two with Tzolis.
Barcelona’s best first-half moments came from Fermin Lopez, who struck the woodwork, and Jules Kounde, whose powerful shot hit the post. Ferran Torres managed to equalize briefly with a clever finish set up by Lopez, but Brugge’s attacking energy restored their lead before the break.
In the second half, Barcelona pushed forward with urgency. Yamal, once again the standout teenager, combined beautifully with Lopez his flicked finish into the bottom corner brought the visitors level at 2–2.
Brugge, however, refused to sit back. Captain Hans Vanaken restored their lead with a delicate chip over goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, only for Yamal to respond again late in the game with a stunning curling strike into the top corner, sealing a share of the points.
The thrilling contest ended with both sides walking away with a point each Brugge proud of their fearless display and Barcelona relieved to have avoided defeat. The draw leaves both teams in a tight battle for qualification as the group stage intensifies.
