(The Post News) – All eight suspects who were arrested following a high-stakes business robbery and subsequent shoot-out in Centurion last week have been released.
The release of the men, who faced charges including armed robbery and attempted murder, has raised serious questions about the administrative handling of a case that was celebrated just a few days ago as a significant victory against organised crime.
The Crime and Swift Arrest
The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 28, 2025. According to reports from Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi at the time, the armed suspects stormed the business, forced employees to comply, and swiftly loaded a substantial amount of stock into a truck.
They then fled the scene, with the truck being escorted by a Kia sedan.
Security teams were alerted and launched a pursuit, tracing the vehicles to the R55 road near Raslouw in Wierdabrug.
A shootout erupted between the security guards and the perpetrators.
However, during the exchange of fire, one security guard and one suspect sustained gunshot injuries.
Nevhuhulwi said police arrived during the chaos, resulting in the successful apprehension of all eight suspects, including the injured man.
Moreover, officers seized two firearms, the stolen truck, and the getaway vehicle at the scene.
Technicality Leads to Release
Despite the successful arrests and the recovery of crucial evidence, reports indicate that a technical issue with the legal processing of the suspects led to their release on Monday, November 3, 2025.
This development means the men are currently free, though the police investigation into the armed robbery is understood to be ongoing.
Meanwhile, the incident underscores the challenges faced by law enforcement and prosecutors in ensuring that cases against sophisticated criminal syndicates are watertight from the moment of arrest, preventing suspects from walking free on procedural grounds.
