(The Post News)- Former Public Enterprises Minister Malusi Gigaba handed himself over to the police in Pretoria on Friday, 07 November 2025 morning to face charges connected to the ongoing investigation into corruption at Transnet.
According to reports, the development is part of the National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA) effort to hold former government officials accountable for their alleged roles in state capture.
It is reported that Gigaba will be formally charged in connection with alleged irregularities and unlawful payments linked to Transnet’s multibillion rand procurement contracts. He made his first court appearance today.

Several former executives, including ex-Transnet CEO Brian Molefe and former CFO Anoj Singh, have already been charged with fraud, corruption, and money laundering linked to these contracts. The pair, along with others, are accused of manipulating tender processes and facilitating payments to Gupta linked companies.
Gigaba Appeared in Court
Gigaba confirmed on a statement that he had been instructed by the NPA to present himself to law enforcement authorities. “I have been summoned to appear in court this morning. I do not know what the charges are yet, but I’ll let you know after receiving the charge sheet,” he said.
He added that he had full faith in South Africa’s judicial system. “Let me declare that I have full confidence in our courts, they are the forum where facts, not fiction, will finally prevail. My confidence is built on irrefutable evidence and a commitment to full transparency,” Gigaba stated.
Reports indicate that his arrest and court appearance represent another major step in the NPA’s clean up campaign targeting corruption in state-owned enterprises such as Transnet and Eskom. The authority has intensified its pursuit of former officials implicated in state capture, with several high-profile cases now before the courts.
As the legal process unfolds, Gigaba is expected to testify about his role at Transnet and the decisions taken under his watch.
