(The Post News) – Eight people died in a horrific vehicle crash between a truck and a sedan on the N2 near Scottsburg on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast.
IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson Samantha Meyrick confirmed that emergency teams responded to the scene on Saturday evening and found multiple fatalities. “Tragically, eight people, including children, died at the scene. Paramedics took the truck driver, who sustained minor injuries, to a nearby hospital,” Meyrick said.
Meyrick added that rescue personnel worked tirelessly to free the victims trapped in the wreckage. “Police officers are still investigating the exact circumstances that caused the crash,” she said.
Separate Crash in Free State
Meanwhile, in a similar incident, a crash on the R76 outside Viljoenskroon in the Free State killed 3 children and severely injured 10 others.
Emergency Medical Services spokesperson Sipho Towa said paramedics transported two critically injured children to health facilities in Kroonstad. “The vehicle was travelling from Kroonstad to Sasolburg when the accident occurred on Friday,” Towa said.
Towa added that authorities have not yet determined the cause of the crash. “The recent spate of deadly accidents has once again raised concerns about road safety, especially as the festive season approaches,” he said.
Police have opened investigations into both crashes.
