(The Post News) – Bayern Munich Women produced a stunning second-half comeback to defeat Arsenal Women 3–2 in a pulsating UEFA Women’s Champions League clash at the Allianz Arena.
The Gunners looked on course for a famous away victory after a dominant first half. Emily Fox opened the scoring in the fifth minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse to fire past Maria-Luisa Grohs. Mariona Caldentey doubled Arsenal’s lead midway through the half. The opportunity was finished neatly after a flowing team move that highlighted Jonas Eidevall’s attacking blueprint.
But the match flipped dramatically after the break. Bayern emerged revitalized, pushing Arsenal deeper and finding renewed energy through their substitutes. Alara Sehitler ignited the comeback in the 67th minute, finishing from close range after sustained pressure.
The equalizer arrived 13 minutes later when star striker Pernille Harder calmly slotted home after a slick counterattack. With the momentum firmly in their favor, Bayern completed the turnaround in the 86th minute captain Glódís Perla Viggósdóttir. She was rising highest from a corner to head in the decisive goal and send the home crowd into raptures.
“We showed great spirit and belief. Even at 2–0 down, the players never stopped fighting. The energy in the second half was incredible”, said Bayern head coach Alexander Straus after the match.
For Arsenal, it was a night that started with promise but ended in disappointment. Their fluid first-half shows a gave way to fatigue and defensive frailty after the interval. Manager Jonas Eidevall lamented his side’s inability to see the game out.
“We controlled the first half but didn’t manage the second well enough. Bayern punished us for every mistake that’s the level of the Champions League”, he said.
Bayern Munich’s dramatic 3‑2 win over Arsenal has place them in good position to be competitive. Both teams are adding unsettling pressure in the 2025/26 Ueffa Champions League.
