(The Post News) Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have booked their places to be a high-stakes. The two managed to win their playoff games in November 13. Their final stage set for Sunday, November 16.
Nigeria swept past Gabon with a commanding 4–1 victory, while DRC battled to a gritty 1–0 win over Cameroon. Two very different paths that now collide in a blockbuster showdown for a spot on the world’s biggest stage.
Nigeria entered the semi-final as favourites, and the Super Eagles delivered with style and confidence. Their 4–1 win over Gabon was one of the most complete performances of the qualifiers so far. The attack flowed, the midfield dominated, and the defence showed composure whenever tested.

Early pressure paid off quickly, and once Nigeria found the opening goal, they never looked back. Gabon was resistance, pulling one back in the second half, but the quality and physicality of Nigeria proved overwhelming.
The win extends Nigeria’s unbeaten streak in the qualifiers and sends a clear message to the rest of the continent. DRC’s 1–0 victory over Cameroon was a tense, tactical battle defined by discipline and defensive resilience.
Cameroon controlled phases of the match. But DRC were ruthless when their one clear opportunity came converting clinically before shutting down the contest. The Leopards’ organisation has been their greatest strength throughout this qualifying cycle. Once again they proved difficult to break down. Cameroon pushed late, even hitting the post in the closing minutes, but DRC refused to panic.
It wasn’t flashy, but it was effective and enough to secure passage to the final. Nigeria vs. DRC now stands as one of the most anticipated fixtures of this qualifying campaign.
Nigeria bring pace, flair and attacking power. DRC bring structure, discipline and a counter-attacking edge. Both teams believe they deserve a ticket to the World Cup. They both have shown they can win under pressure but only one will stand tall on Sunday, November 16.
