(The Post News) – Veteran midfielder Pogiso Mahlangu has parted ways with Premier Division side Sekhukhune United. The veteran midfielder is now being linked with a potential move to newly-promoted Orbit College.
The 33 year-old joined Sekhukhune United in July 2021 from Pretoria Callies. He managed to secure 68 appearances and scoring six goals during his time with the “Babina Noko” outfit. A club statement confirmed that Mahlangu “wore our colors with pride since 1 July 2021”. “He leaves with respect and best wishes for the future”, club wrote in a statement.
Mahlangu initially made his top-tier debut with the University of Pretoria in the 2012–13 season. He later had spells with Vasco da Gama and Pretoria Callies before joining Sekhukhune.
Known for his versatility, he has been deployed in central midfield as well as on the wing. He had transition most recently taking on a wing-back role.
Mahlangu told the media in 2024, “Wherever you put me, I will give you 110% all the time.” This statement reflects on adaptability and commitment.
Sekhukhune United’s announcement comes amid a broader list of departures ahead of the 2025/26 season. Mahlangu’s experience and versatility make him a valuable asset for any team. His ability to play multiple positions adds strength and depth to a squad.
Orbit College, a club from North West province recently promoted to the Betway Premiership, is reportedly interested in signing Mahlangu. Although there has been no official confirmation yet, Mahlangu’s experience and leadership would be a key asset. His presence will greatly help a team preparing for its debut in South Africa’s top division.
If the move to Orbit College goes through, it will mark a new chapter for Mahlangu. He would be leaving a settled role at Sekhukhune to embrace fresh challenges. With his vital leadership presence, he’ll help the squad aiming to find itself in the Premiership. Both the club and player show poised for a mutually beneficial partnership, pending a formal announcement.
