(The Post News)– South Africans are being urged to brace for a wet and hazardous weather over the weekend. Bringing with it heavy rainfall, severe thunderstorms, strong winds and a heightened risk of flooding.
SAWS Confirms Severe Storms Over The Weekend
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) released a statement on Friday, 14 November 2025. Cut off low pressure system will start. Affecting central parts of the country from Saturday, spreading eastward through to Monday.

Heavy rain is expected over many provinces. The North West, Free State, eastern parts of the Eastern Cape, Northern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal will be affected first. These conditions will start on Saturday. The weather will then spread to Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo and the rest of KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday and Monday.
This setup is a cut off low. This type of system often brings severe weather. SAWS says people can expect heavy rain, strong winds and small hail. There will also be a lot of lightning. Daytime temperatures will drop.
The risk of flooding is high. Roads become dangerous. Homes and properties will be damaged. Essential services also be disrupted. Fast-flowing water is a threat to life.
Meteorologist Urges Residents to Be Safe
Meteorologist André Fourie says conditions become severe in some areas. He warns the public to take the alerts seriously. SAWS is urging people to check updates closely. Farmers and other stakeholders have also been asked to prepare.
Authorities recommend people to stay safe, avoid flooded areas and secure their homes. The severe weather is expected to last into early next week.
