(The Post News) – Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi has successfully fended off a motion of no confidence, despite criticism from opposition parties about his leadership. The Motion led by the Democratic Alliance (DA), was rejected.
DA Gauteng leader, Solly Msimanga, orchestrated a motion against Lesufi on Thursday, 13th November 2025. Msimanga had hoped to get support from opposition parties. To his disadvantage, all opposition parties refused to partake in the oust.

Msimanga stated that residents had been let down by political parties, despite publicly voicing out their dissatisfaction with Lesufi’s administration. According to Msimanga, the parties defended him in private and defied him in public.
ActionSA Repels in Motion
Lesufi had previously experienced criticism from ActionSA regarding the manner in which he handles government failures. Despite their criticism, they stand firm in support of Lesufi, as they are adamant in the motion lacking successorship.
ActionSA Chairperson, Funzi Ngobeni cautioned the DA about the implications of not having a contingency plan. It may result in the motion being a symbolic concept, rather than that of a feasible solution. The DA is obligated to give a public apology to members of the community for misconceiving Lesufi prior to having him removed.
He further remarked on highlighted issues like maladministartion and poor leadership as stated in the letter. He argued that such could have been avoided, had the DA resisted in supporting Lesufi’s premier nomination in June 2024.
EFF Stands Firm in Its Decision

The EFF expelled the motion stating that it will not be in unity with a party that never ceased to demonize them in public. In a letter, the EFF expressed themselves and said the DA has gone out of its way to humiliate their organization. They have endured degradation at the hands of the of the party and the use of inflammatory language. Alongside a lack of mutual respect between parties within a democratic dispensation.

It is advised that the DA publicly reflects on negative remarks made and apologize prior committing into any engagements. EFF argues that despite this posture, the DA seeks their co-operation in this motion and claims to want their bread “buttered on both sides.”
IFP Stands in Resistance
IFP prioritized stability, clean governance and effective service delivery in concluding that it will not back the motion. Bonginkosi Dlamini, Gauteng IFP chairperson stated that it would have preferred to be consulted prior decision-making. However, they appreciate DA’s outreach and interest in securing their support.

Lesufi thanked the parties for their role in opposing the ousting. Further highlighting their shared unity in working towards the betterment of Gauteng. He mentioned that he acknowledges the reborn energy in defeating racial prejudice. Lesufi responded to DA’s accusations of providing employment and security. He asserts that he and other parties will remain committed in serving the citizens.
Msimanga made a remark on IFP’s decision and the influence the MMC’s post has on it. The post insinuates that the IFP is at risk of losing everything, as posted on ANC-run city Johannesburg.
More Parties in Opposition
Build One SA (BOSA) and Rise Mzansi have opposed the ousting too.
Msimanga suggests that the EFF , BOSA and MK Party were driven by a grudge against the DA, in contrast to meeting the needs of Gauteng residents. He regards this a cowardly consensus and an indication of what these parties are driven by. “All talk but not action.”
The DA will continue vouching for Lesufi’s removal, he confirms. He claims to have had his administration sunken in scandals.
