(The Post News)- The defence in the murder trial of Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa introduced a new witness. This happened on Wednesday. This witness claims police dictated the contents of a statement he made during the investigation.
Absalom Zungu Exposes Police Officers
Absalom Nhlahlezi Zungu testified at the Pretoria High Court, he is the father of police constable Sizwe Zungu. Reports show that he was taken by officers to a house that “was not a police station.” There, he was told to make a statement implicating certain individuals.

Zungu said the officers instructed him on what to say. They even provided him with the names of two of the accused before he entered the witness box.
“They mentioned Muzi and Ntanzi and asked if I knew them,” he said.
He testified that he knew accused Muzi Sibiya. Sibiya was his neighbour. He also knew Bongani Ntanzi, who he described as his cousin’s son. “The others I don’t know,” he added.
Breakthrough for Senzo Meyiwa Murder Trial
State Prosecutor George Baloyi questioned Zungu’s motives. He also questioned the timing of his complaint. He pointed out that Brigadier Bongani Gininda had already mentioned his name during testimony in November 2023.
“Brigadier Gininda testified for the first time in this court around the 27th of November 2023. And Brigadier Gininda referred to your name during his testimony. Nevertheless, the statement that you made at Newcastle police station is only dated 8 July 2025. If you were so aggrieved, why did you wait this long?” Baloyi asked.
Zungu responded simply: “What was I supposed to do?”
