(The Post News)– Sekhukhune United has strengthened its technical team with the appointment of a former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper. Andre Arendse will serve as assistant coach, adding another seasoned figure to Eric Tinkler’s ambitious project.
Sekhukhune United confirmed the news with a statement on Thursday. They described the arrival of the 1996 AFCON champion as a strategic move. This is intended to push the team into the title race.
Arendse, now 58, joins Sekhukhune with a wealth of experience from his time at SuperSport United. There he served as goalkeeper coach and later joined the club’s technical structure. His playing career remains one of South Africa’s most storied. He had PSL longevity, lifting Africa’s most prized trophy with Bafana Bafana.
Arendse Unites with Tinkler
His appointment reunites him with fellow Class of 1996 member Eric Tinkler. Eric has stabilized and energized the Sekhukhune-based side. He guided them to fourth place after 11 matches and boasted six victories in an impressive early-season run.
Tinkler personally pushed for Arendse’s inclusion. Word on the street says he sees Arendse as a figure who can elevate defensive structure. He can also improve discipline and sharpen goalkeeper performance areas. The Sekhukhune coach believes they are crucial for the second half of the campaign.
“We want to remain competitive at the highest level. Having someone of Andre’s pedigree strengthens our ambitions,” a Sekhukhune fan revealed. Many fans expressed excitement at seeing another national-team legend join the club, praising Arendse’s winning mentality and strong coaching background.
Some people are worried about constant staff adjustments. They fear that too much change could disrupt rhythm in a season where Sekhukhune looks well-placed. Still, the prevailing sentiment is one of optimism. With Arendse on board, the club signals its intent not just to compete but to challenge for honours.
Sekhukhune United now set their eyes firmly on keeping pace with title contenders as the league tightens. Whether Arendse’s arrival provides the boost needed remains to be seen, but the message from the club is clear.
