Errol Musk has made a number of bombshell accusations. He claims that President Cyril Ramaphosa and the African National Congress (ANC) tried to obtain significant equity and financial assistance from Elon Musk ahead of the 2024 General Elections.
Errol Musk claims that the ruling party approached him with several requests. These included a political endorsement. They also wanted an important stake in SpaceX’s satellite broadband provider, Starlink.
The “Secret” Letter
Errol Musk disclosed in recent interviews that he served as a go-between for the President and his son. These interviews include those on the Truth Report Podcast and the SMWX podcast with Sizwe Mpofu-Walsh. He says that before the elections, he received a letter from President Ramaphosa. It was meant for Elon. The letter asked for help to raise the ANC’s standing.
“Ramaphosa sent me a letter to send to Elon, asking him for support… He had the idea that Elon would respond, but Elon didn’t,” Errol stated.
Shortly after sending the letter, Errol says the President’s staff tried to withdraw it. “Ramaphosa’s secretary contacted me and said, ‘Don’t send the letter, we’ve changed [our minds], we think it’s not a good idea,’ but I had already sent the letter.”
The purported requests went beyond a straightforward political endorsement and mostly focused on Starlink, the satellite internet system that is presently operational in other African nations but is still unavailable in South Africa.
According to Errol Musk, there were strict ownership requirements during the talks for Starlink’s admission into the South African market, and these demands quickly intensified.
According to reports, the ANC’s first demand was for a 30% ownership share in Starlink’s local division. According to reports, this number had increased to 39%. When equity demands were rejected, the party reportedly suggested they would accept a $100 million donation instead.
Errol Musk noted that these demands showed a fundamental misunderstanding of his son’s character. “You’re talking to the wrong person when you say that kind of thing to Elon Musk… That guy will stop the world from turning rather than give you what you want like that.”
